Hello Simple Stories friends!! It’s Jen today with a layout I created using the new Safe Travels collection. In the past, I have struggled with travel-centered lines because I never go anywhere . . . LOL! That all changed in January when I went to Charleston, SC, with my daughters and a close family friend. So, unfortunately for everyone, that means you will have to endure my vacation photos for the next several months while I document the trip.
As usual, I began with a design in mind and it morphed into something completely different. Here’s a look at what I created.
When selecting the papers and embellishments for this layout, I tried to use colors that match the skyline in my photos. I absolutely love the brightly colored line on the horizon and wanted to make that the focus.
To pull colors from the photo, I added inks to white cardstock mimicking the color pattern of the photo. After cutting the cardstock down 1/8” on each side, I backed it with the floral-patterned paper. This doesn’t show in the main photo because the cardstock is warped from the ink and I wasn’t able to get a good, square photo.
Next, using my Silhouette, I created the title, cut, and backed it with patterned papers that are primarily blue, orange, and yellow. I then adhered the title atop the ink background using foam squares.
Before adding the photos, I used the Direction Arrows Stencil with the same inks in the background to create a multi-colored matte to back my pictures. I always enjoy adding unique elements to projects.
Embellishments were next and I used a bunch from the Sticker Book, Puffy Stickers, Foam Stickers, Bits & Pieces, and Journal Bits.
My plan was to keep them mainly on the title to jazz it up. I did add a few embellishments to each of the photos so they didn’t appear too plain, but kept everything in line with the cascading title and the photos.
I love the bright colors of the layout and the cohesiveness of the photos, papers, and embellishments.
Thank you so much for visiting today. I’m sorry to report that until I get to go on another vacation, you will have to put up with my litany of Charleston photos. #SorryNotSorry.
Whatever your travel plans, be certain to grab the Safe Travels Collection to record your memories!! You will love it!
