Smile mini album

Smile mini album

Hey Simple Stories friends! It’s Cheryl on the blog today with this easy pocket mini album using the new Sunny Days collection.

I wanted this mini album to feel light, breezy, and carefree—just like a perfect summer day at the beach! Instead of using my usual chipboard base, I decided to switch things up and go with a thin sheet of acetate for the base. It gives the album a unique transparent look and makes the pages really fun and flexible to flip through. Plus, the see-through effect adds a whimsical touch! If you don’t have acetate on hand, don’t worry—you can absolutely use what you already have at home. Recycle old packaging, upcycle plastic sleeves, or even use sturdy scrap card. It’s all about making it your own!

The size and shape of your mini album are totally up to you, which is part of the fun! I chose a small landscape format because it’s easy to hold and flip through, and it gives off that postcard-style vacation look. Once I decided on the size, I picked some of my favourite patterned papers from the Sunny Days collection for the cover and pages. To give the album cover a nice border and let the acetate base show through, I trimmed the papers to be about 0.25 inches smaller on all sides. This not only adds a pretty layered look but also helps keep the spine soft and bendable for easy flipping.

Now for the best part—embellishing! I didn’t stick to a specific style or theme on each pocket or tag, because I love the eclectic, playful look that comes from mixing things up. Each pocket page has its own little personality! I used a fun combination of embellishments from the collection—Bits & Pieces, chipboard stickers, foam stickers, and enamel dots—to add depth and interest. Don’t be afraid to layer items or let pieces hang off the edges a bit; it gives your mini album that handmade, dimensional charm that makes it truly special.

I had an absolute blast working with the Sunny Days collection—it’s so cheerful and inspiring, it makes me want to plan a sunny getaway right now! I hope this little project sparks your creativity and encourages you to create a personalized pocket album to keep or gift to a friend.
