Exploring the Outdoors with "Simple Vintage, Woodlands"
By Gloria Parra
Hello Simple Stories friends! Gloria Parra here, and today I’m super excited to share a layout that celebrates the great outdoors and breathtaking mountain views. I had such a fun time creating this layered, earthy, and outdoorsy layout using the gorgeous Simple Vintage: Woodlands collection—and I’m walking you through the steps so you can recreate it, too!
As soon as I saw the patterned paper with beautiful floral clusters in opposite corners, I knew it would be the star of my layout. I carefully fussy cut around both floral clusters to give the page more depth and texture. This allowed me to tuck a patterned paper behind it for an eye-catching layered effect.
For the background, I wanted something subtle that would still allow the florals to shine. I turned to the Simple Vintage Basics kit and chose a beautiful dusty rose-colored paper. I trimmed it down to an 11-inch square and tucked it behind the original floral paper. This created the perfect frame and added a soft contrast to my layout.
Chipboard frames are a personal favorite of mine, and this collection has the most adorable designs! I chose the one with the hiking shoes and mushrooms on either side—it was the perfect way to highlight my main photo. It instantly added a charming, woodland feel and helped draw attention to the focal point of the page. I then printed two smaller 3x4 photos to complement my main image. One was tucked above the frame and the other to the right side, helping to tell the story of our adventure from multiple angles.
Time to bring in more detail! I created a small cluster at the bottom right of the chipboard frame featuring the adorable fox die-cut. It seriously looks like he’s gazing into the photo—so cute! For my other cluster, I used two floral pieces from the floral pack, layering them at the top left of the frame. I added foam adhesive to give the flowers some lift and dimension, which really brings the page to life.
For the title, I used the Nature Lover Explore foam sticker and layered it directly on top of the chipboard frame. Don’t be afraid to build on top of elements—it creates layers and adds visual interest while giving your design a playful, creative look. To complete the layout, I sprinkled a few foam butterfly stickers around the page. These little accents help guide the viewer’s eye through the layout and tie everything together beautifully.
I absolutely love how this layout turned out! It’s the perfect mix of cozy woodland charm and layered storytelling. I hope this inspires you to document your own outdoor memories using the Simple Vintage: Woodlands collection. Thank you so much for stopping by—until next time!
Happy scrapping,
Gloria Parra
