Cherish Today! by Amber Mitchell

Hi crafty friends! Amber Mitchell here on the Simple Stories blog today to share with you a fun, accordion mini album I created with the Simple Vintage: Weathered Garden collection.

This collection is full of some of my favorite things; I love the mustard yellow colors, the butterflies and the florals. I love the autumnal vibes this collection has while also being perfect for any time of year!

To make the base of this album, I used 5 pieces of medium weight chipboard. Four of these pieces measured 1.5 x 4 inches (A) while the other measured 3 x 4 inches (B). To wrap these, I laid them down on the back of the patterned paper I chose in the following order: A, A, B, A, A. I used the backside of the “Journal Elements” patterned paper to wrap my base and I love the autumnal vibes the yellow plaid brings to the project.

Once my chipboard was wrapped, I lined the inside of my album using the “Beautiful Life” patterned paper.

To make the pages of this album, I used 5 sheets of paper that measured 3 ¾ x 6 inches. I then scored these on the 6-inch side at 2 7/8 and 3 1/8 inches. This gives each folded page a quarter inch gusset which is great if you love adding thicker embellishments!

Next, I glued these pages together to create an accordion and then adhered that to the inside center of my base.

When it came to embellishing the outside of this album, I opted to create a cluster that I could add to the cover. This cluster also doubles as the closure for this mini since I added magnets behind it.

Off to the side, I created a fun dangle of charms and tassels for a bit of fun. To make this piece stand out more, I added a few of the Decorative Brads from this collection to it.

I had a hard time choosing a title for this project from all of the sweet sentiments found in the Foam Stickers, but eventually settled on the “OH, HAPPY DAY”. I think it works perfectly for the project and I love the simplicity it brings to the title page. A few flowers and a yellow, chipboard heart finished it off nicely.

The pages of the left side of this album consists of spots for memorabilia and journaling, while the pages on the right side have wallet-sized photo mats.

I decorated the inside of this album with a mix of embellishments to add texture and character. The Chipboard Stickers pop and add a bit of dimension, while the Floral Bits and Bits & Pieces layered up nicely together.

I used a couple of cut-aparts from the “Journal Elements” patterned paper to create some interactive flip up spots that are great for tucking photos into or for hidden journaling.

A few extra bits from the Layered Stickers and a few small butterflies from the Cardstock Stickers added the perfect finishing touch throughout the album.

Thank you so much for stopping by my post today! I hope you leave feeling inspired and I’ll see you next time with another fun project!
