Basket of Mini Albums

Basket of Mini Albums

Hi crafty friends! Amber Mitchell here on the Simple Stories blog today to share with you a mini album set that I created using the Cider & Donuts collection. Despite it being HOT as ever here in California, I myself am ready for all things Fall, which is why I chose to work with this stunning collection again!

Fall is my favorite season. I love the colors, the smells, the traditions. Every year, my family takes a trip to our local pumpkin farm. We have dozens of photos that I've yet to document, so I thought that a set of mini albums would be perfect for doing just that. I created three, teeny tiny 2.5 x 2.5-inch mini albums with a matching basket for easy storage and cute display! This is actually a project style that I've made multiple times in the past, so I'll include the instructions for the original project below. The only modification I made to this Fall set, was creating two pages instead of four.

To create the mini albums, I used the following materials in the following measurements:

For the bases:
Chipboard - Two pieces that measure 2.5 x 2.5 inch for the covers and one piece that measures 1.25 x 2.5 inch for the spine.
Wrapping - 3.5 x 7.5 inch
Lining - 2.25 x 6 1/8 inch

For the pages - You will need four pages:
(1) 2.25 x 5.5 inch | Score on 5.5 inch side at 2.25 inch and 3.25 inch
(2) 2.25 x 5.25 inch | Score on 5.25 inch side at 2.25 inch and 3 inch
(3) 2.25 x 5 inch | Score on 5 inch side at 2.25 inch and 2.75 inch
(4) 2.25 x 4.75 inch | Score on 4.75 inch side at 2.25 inch and 2.5 inch

Start by wrapping your chipboard and adding the lining. Then work on your pages. Once they are all scored and folded, adhere them together from the largest gusset to smallest gusset. Then add them to the inside spine of your mini by using a strong adhesive.

To create the basket, you will need two pieces of paper in the following measurements (I recommend double-sided paper):
Box: 5.5 x 7 inches. Score on all four sides at 1.25 inches. Cut the squares in the corners into tabs and use those to adhere the box together.
Handle: 1 x 12 inches. Either use eyelets or a strong adhesive to attach this handle to either side of the box.

With the base project complete, all that's left to do is embellish.

I always start with the box on a project like this. I added a cluster of flowers and leaves from the Floral Bits & Pieces pack to the top of the handle. Then, around the edges of the basket, I adhered some white pompom trim for a bit of extra flair and fun! I also added some large pumpkin die cuts the to back of the box, so that when the mini albums are not in it, it still looks fun and festive!

Embellishing the albums themselves can be tricky at times, considering just how small they are. I went through all of the different embellishments that come with the Cider & Donuts collection and handpicked the tiniest embellishments from each. This included pieces from the Enamel Dots, Bits & Pieces, Floral Bits & Pieces, Journal Bits & Pieces, Decorative Brads, Cardstock Stickers, Foam Stickers, and Chipboard Stickers. I used these small embellishments to create small clusters that I layered around the photos. I also used some of these pieces to create journaling spots throughout the albums.

To decorate the covers of the albums, I used large flower stickers. I also added sentiment stickers from the Sticker Book to the spines of each album to create titles. To finish off the albums, I added small glitter charms and leaf charms from my stash to the spines.

I hope you feel inspired to document your precious Fall memories in an album like this! Thanks so much for stopping by my post today, I'll see you next time!
